Sreekkutty S R and Anjana S Nair, the NSS Volunteers from S5 BCom participated in the ‘Gandhi Jayanthi Cleaning Programme’ organised by the Department of Physical Education, the University of Kerala at the University Stadium, PMG, Trivandrum on 2nd October 2024 at 10.00 am.

Gandhi Jayanti Celebrations: Beach-Cleaning Drive

In connection with the 155th Gandhi Jayanti Celebrations,the National Service Scheme Unit of GCAS organised a ‘Beach-Cleaning Drive’ at St. Andrews Beach, Menamkulam on 2nd October 2024 from 10.00 am to 11.30 am. A team of twenty NSS volunteers led by Mr. Sabarinath S (NSS Programme Officer) and Ms. Adithya K L (Assistant Professor of Economics) were transported to the location in a Special Bus arranged by the College Administrator, Rev. Fr. Joseph Chacko. Dr. R. Gopakumar, Principal, GCAS and Ms. Dorin Jacob, Ward Member (St. Andrews) joined the volunteers at the Beach. Even in the midst of heavy rain, the undeterred NSS volunteers engaged in an extensive Cleaning Drive. They collected plastic, glass, and paper waste, carefully sorted it out in garbage bags, and handed it to the ‘Harithakarmasena’ for recycling. The Drive concluded at 11.30 am and was followed by a refreshing ‘Snack and Tea’ session.

Beach-Cleaning Drive - Independence Day Celebration 2024

The NSS Units of GCAS conducted a ‘Beach-Cleaning Drive’ at Arattuvazhy Beach. The NSS volunteers engaged in an extensive Cleaning Drive, collected plastic, glass, and paper waste, and carefully assorted them in sacks and garbage bags for recycling.

Independence Day Celebration 2024

The NSS and NCC Units of GCAS jointly celebrated the 78th Independence Day at the Campus.

The National Flag was hoisted by Principal-in-Charge Dr. Sheela Irin Jayanthi at 9.00 am, following which she delivered the Independence Day message to the students. Mr. Arun Viswanadh (NCC Programme Officer), Mrs. Navami B (NCC Caretaker), Mr. Sabarinath S, (NSS Programme Officer) and selected volunteers of the NSS and NCC marked their presence at the Programme.

Anti-Drug Oath-taking Ceremony

In connection with the 78th Independence Day Celebrations, the National Service Scheme Unit of Gregorian College of Advanced Studies organised an ‘Anti-Drug Oath-taking Ceremony’ at the Campus on 12th August 2024 at 10.00 am. It was organised as per the directive received from the Department of Social Justice, Govt of Kerala as a part of the nationwide ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’.

Dr. Sheela Irin Jayanthi, Principal-in-Charge, dictated the oath to the students and Rev. Father Joseph Chacko (College Administrator) delivered the Felicitation. Dr. Binu Johnson (HoD, English), Ms. Caroline Thomas (HoD, Commerce), Ms. Usharani (HoD, Economics), Ms. Gayathri Venu Jaya (HoD, Psychology), Mr. Sabarinath S (NSS Programme Officer), Ms. Shari S (Asst. NSS Programme Officer), Mr. Arun Vishwanadh (HoD, Physical Education), Faculty members and students of the respective Departments marked their presence at the event.

International Yoga Day 2024

In connection with the International Yoga Day, the National Service Scheme Unit of Gregorian College of Advanced Studies organised a ‘Live Yoga Session’ today (21-6-24) at the Campus from 9.30 am to 10.30 am. The event was conducted in association with College Women’s Cell and GCAS Health Club. The Yoga session was handled by Mr. Santosh Benet (renowned Yoga trainer). Rev. Fr. Joseph Chacko (College Administrator), Dr. R. Gopakumar (Principal, GCAS), Mr. Sabarinath S (NSS Programme Officer), Ms. Shari S (Asst. NSS Programme Officer), Ms. Keerthana KS (Convenor, College Women’s Cell), Ms. Manjusha Mohan J (Co-ordinator, GCAS Health Club), selected NSS Volunteers and members of the Women’s Cell and Health Club marked their presence at the event.

Mr. Abimon SJ, from S4 B2 BCOM successfully represented the GCAS NSS Unit in a Three Day Residential Volunteer Leadership Training Programme organised by the National Service Scheme, University of Kerala at T K M College of Arts & Science, Kollam from 21st to 23rd June, 2024.

The Programme was aimed at developing the leadership qualities of students through different interactive sessions and was inaugurated by Dr. Anzar R. N, State NSS Officer, Government of Kerala. Abimon was presented with a Certificate for completing the Programme.

World Environment Day 2024

In connection with the observance of World Environment Day, the National Service Scheme and the NCC Unit of Gregorian College of Advanced Studies, Alathara, Sreekariyam, Thiruvananthapuram organized a Sapling Planting Drive and Clean-Campus Campaign at the Campus. The event was inaugurated by the Manager His Grace Dr. Gabriel Mar Gregorios Metropolitan at the College Campus at 1.30 pm on 05.06.2024.
