The NCC in India was formed under the National Cadet Corps Act of 1948. It can be traced back to the “University Corps“, which was created under the Indian Defense Act 1917, with the objective to make up for the shortage in the Army. The National Cadet Corps is the youth wing of the Armed Forces with its Headquarters at New Delhi, Delhi, India. It is open to school and college students on a voluntary basis. National Cadet Corps is a Tri-Services Organization, comprising the Army, Navy and Air Wing, engaged in grooming the youth of the country into disciplined and patriotic citizens. NCC is the largest uniformed youth organization. Its motto is 'Unity and Discipline'. In living up to its motto, the NCC strives to be and is one of the greatest cohesive forces of the nation, bringing together the youth hailing from different parts of the country and moulding them into united, secular and disciplined citizens of the nation.

The NCC Army unit of Gregorian College of Advance Studies , Thiruvananthapuram comes under the 2 Kerala Battalion NCC, Thirumala.

AIMS OF NCC

  1. To Develop Character, Comradeship, Discipline, Leadership, Secular Outlook, Spirit of Adventure, and Ideals of Selfless Service amongst the Youth of the Country.
  2. To Create a Human Resource of Organized, Trained and Motivated Youth, To Provide Leadership in all Walks of life and be Always Available for the Service of the Nation.
  3. To Provide a Suitable Environment to Motivate the Youth to Take Up a Career in the Armed Forces.

Certificate Exam

The evaluation of NCC cadets is achieved through practical and theoretical examinations. NCC conducts the following two certificate examinations:

B Certificate exam for the second year cadets.
C Certificate exam for the third year cadets.

The Gregorian College NCC Army Wings 2024 Enrolment

The Gregorian College NCC Army Wings 2024 Enrolment was successfully held at Colachal Stadium, Pangod, from 11 am to 1:30 pm on October 29, 2024. This marked an important milestone for aspiring Cadets who underwent rigorous physical tests to assess their fitness, endurance, and readiness to meet NCC standards. Col. Jaisankar Chaudhari, Commanding Officer of 2(K) Battalion NCC, addressed the newly enrolled Cadets, emphasizing NCCs vital role in nation-building and instilling values like Leadership, Service, and Patriotism.

He reminded them of their significant responsibilities towards the NCC and the Nation, encouraging them to maintain high standards and strive for excellence within and beyond the organization. The Event concluded with Col. Chaudharis inspiring message, leaving the cadets with a strong sense of purpose and readiness to serve the nation. This enrollment marks the beginning of their transformative journey as NCC Cadets.


Gandhi Jayanti: Cleanliness Drive in the College campus

NCC Unit Commemorated Gandhi Jayanti, by conducting a Cleanliness Drive in the College campus at 2:00 pm on 1st October 2024. This Initiative was a part of the nationwide Swachhata Hi Sewa Abhiyan (SHS) 2024 Campaign, in response to a directive from the 2(k) Battalion. A total of 30 Cadets led by Mr. Arun Viswanadh( ANO) and Ms. Navami B (Caretaker) actively participated in the Environment Cleanliness Drive, equipped with cleaning tools, and worked diligently to clean the College Ground. Their collective efforts ensured the area was spotlessly cleaned, contributing to the National Campaign for Cleanliness. The event served as a meaningful tribute to Mahatma Gandhi's Principles of Responsibility and Community Service while promoting the importance of a cleaner and healthier Environment.

The 78th Independence Day Celebration

The NSS and NCC Units of GCAS jointly celebrated the 78th Independence Day at the Campus.

he National Flag was hoisted by Principal-in-Charge Dr. Sheela Irin Jayanthi at 9.00 am, following which she delivered the Independence Day message to the students. Mr. Arun Viswanadh (NCC Programme Officer), Mrs. Navami B (NCC Caretaker), Mr. Sabarinath S, (NSS Programme Officer) and selected volunteers of the NSS and NCC marked their presence at the Programme.


The NCC Unit completed the Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign by organising a Walkathon and distributing flags to the general public.


Annual Training Camp (ATC) at Pangode Military Camp

Fourteen Cadets from the Gregorian College of Advanced Studies (GCAS) successfully completed the Annual Training Camp (ATC) at Pangode Military Camp from 20th June 2024 to 29th June 2024. The Camp, conducted by 2(K) BN NCC, offered a comprehensive training experience, including physical training, drill and ceremony, team-building exercises, and leadership training. The Cadets also celebrated International Yoga Day, participated in the International Olympic Day Run, and visited ISRO and Vizhinjam Port, gaining valuable insights into India's Space Programme and Maritime Industry. This experience will undoubtedly benefit them in their future endeavours. We extend our congratulations to the Cadets on their successful completion of the Camp.

World Environment Day 2024

In connection with the observance of World Environment Day, the NCC Unit and the National Service Scheme of Gregorian College of Advanced Studies, Alathara, Sreekariyam, Thiruvananthapuram organized a 'Sapling Planting Drive' and 'Clean-Campus Campaign' at the Campus. The Manager His Grace Dr. Gabriel Mar Gregorios Metropolitan inaugurated the event at the College Campus on 05.06.2024.

The College Principal Dr. R Gopakumar, the College Administrator Rev. Fr. Joseph Chacko, Dr. Sheela Irin Jayanthi (Associate Professor of History), Dr. Binu Johnson (HoD, English), Mr. Sabarinath.S (NSS Programme Officer), Mr. Arun Viswanath (the NCC Officer), Smt. Navami B (NCC Caretaker), the Volunteers of NSS, and the Cadets of NCC took part in the Programme.


The NCC unit of the Gregorian College of Advanced Studies achieved a commendable feat by completing a Trekking and Forest cleaning initiative at Kottor Forest Range on January 26, 2024. The event was graced by the presence of the College's Administrator, Rev. Father Joseph Chacko, ANO Arun Viswanath, and Caretaker Navami B. In addition to their environmental efforts, the team visited a Tribal Village, actively participating in the Republic Day flag hoisting ceremony. Following a heartfelt message from the Administrator, the Cadets exemplified a spirit of benevolence by contributing approximately 100 notebooks and various learning materials to the village's Library. These educational resources were generously collected from both Students and Faculties of the College, reflecting a commitment to community engagement and social responsibility.




NCC Cadet U/O Devika S and Sgt Steny S, from S3 B.Com and S3 Psychology respectively, showcased remarkable dedication at the Army Attachment Camp in Pangode Military camp.







NCC Cadet Devika S of B.Com has achieved a remarkable feat by securing a place in the IGC camp and proudly representing the Trivandrum group in the PM rally of the RD parade.
